"Did Jesus Just Happen" The Life of Christ
This week i want to relate some things concerning the Kingdom Sermon or The Sermon of The Mount. There is a great amount of confusion that results when we take things that belong to a future Dispensation and put them in this present Dispensation and this is seen in the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew's Gospel is Jewish and must so be interpreted, though there are teachings in this Gospel that have eternal application and may be applied to any Dispensation, such as "Till Heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (Matthew 5:18), or " where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21) etc". But the instruction to fasting, the danger of the council (Matthew 5:22), the judge, the officer and the profession, I never knew you and such like, have no application to the Christian of today Dispensation, but only to those who are under the Law, and therefore must apply to another Dispensation than this Dispensation of Grace.
The absurdity of the application is seen when we note that many profession Christians, instead of loving their enemies...do not eve lover their brethren. Instead of agreeing with their adversary slowly, they are unwilling to agree with their brethren quickly. Instead of judging other, it is the one thing to which they are most addicted. If any sue them and would take away their coat, instead of letting them have their cloak also, they let them have the law...in court.
We refer to the command,"Give to him that ask of thee and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away"..Try that upon the average church member and see what you would get. How many, if they were smitten on one cheek, would turn the other. We refer to the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6: 19-23), which is a part of the Sermon on the Mount. In that prayer, it asks that Thy Kingdom my come. Note, it does not ask anything for the church that it may increase or prosper but simply Thy Kingdom. There is not one single word of petition for salvation from sin in this prayer. It asks that Gods will may be done in earth as it is done in heaven. During the seven year tribulation on this earth, the Beast or the Antichrist will be in power and no one shall be able to buy or sell except he that has the mark of the beast. The petition in this prayer, "Giver us this day our daily bread," during this time, unless the food is supplied miraculously the Jews will perish.
