Some of the Judgments in Scripture:

The expression "general Judgment" of such frequent occurrence in religious literature, is not found in the Scriptures, and, what is of more importance, the idea intended to be conveyed by that expression is not found in the Scriptures. Dr. Dwight Pentecost well said, "It is a mischievous habit that has led the Christian world to speak of the judgment as being one great event taking place at the end of the world, when all human beings, saints, sinners, Jews and gentiles, the living and the dead, shall stand before the great White Throne and there be judged."

Some of the Judgments that have already occurred:

  1. The judgment of Adam and Eve, (Gen. 3: 1-24). God banished the first couple from the Garden of Eden for violating His clear command not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This judgment affected all of creation. (Gen. 3: 17-19) Rom. 8: 20-23)

  2. The Judgment of the flood or the Antediluvian World. (Gen. 7: 17-23). God sent a worldwide flood in judgment of mankind's sin in Noah's time. The flood destroyed all of mankind and the animal world, except for Noah and his family, whose faith led them to obey God's command to build the ark.

  3. The judgment of the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11: 5-9). Noah's post flood descendants remained in one location in defiance of God's commands, so God confuses their language, causes them to disperse over the earth.

  4. The judgment of Egypt and their gods. (Ex. 7: 12). The ten plagues against Egypt at the time of the exodus were "mighty acts of judgment." Ex. 7: 4 against a stubborn, cruel king and an idolatrous people and their gods. (Ex. 12:12)

  5. Judgement of believers sins (Calvary) Isa. 53: 4-8) Jesus took this judgment upon Himself by His crucifixion and death. "He suffered death, so that by the Grace of God he might taste death for everyone. :(Heb. ) Because our sin was judged at the cross, "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Rom. 8:1. It was also at the Cross that God pronounced judgment on the unbelieving world and on the enemy of our souls, Satan. As Jesus said shortly before His arrest. "Now is the time for judgment on the world, now the prince of this world will be driven out. John 13:31. The time of this Judgment, A.D. 30, the place was the cross, the result: Death for Christ, Justification for the believer. "And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha: where they crucified Him" (John 19:17-18) "Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree" (1 Pet. 2:24) "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Pet. 3:18) "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree" (Gal. 3: 13 "For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Cor. 5: 21) "But now once in the end of the world hath He appeared, to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself" (Heb. 9: 26) "When He had by Himself purged our sins" (Heb. 1:3) "there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Rom. 8:1)

Next week, I will discuss the Future Judgments.
