"The Messiah and His Kingdom" "Did Jesus Just Happen" (The Life of Christ)
As we continue from last week, using the Gospel of Matthew as a base, we see that "Messiah" or Christ began His ministry in Chapter four. From chapter four thru chapter twelve, Christ is seen as going around Israel proclaiming the Kingdom and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. He performs many miracle and the purpose of all His miracles between 4 & 12 is to authenticate His person and His message. they are signs for the nation of Israel in order to authenticate His person; that He is the Messiah; and His message; the Gospel of the Kingdom. But now in Matthew chapter 12, the whole purpose of miracles and His whole ministry is about to make a radical change. "The rejection of Him being the Messiah".
In Matthew chapter 12 and the 27th verse, we are faced with a matter called Jewish exorcism. "And if by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges." Judaism had exorcist who would exorcise demons. We are dealing with exorcism due to the fact that a devil is being cast out of an individual. We must understand in Jewish exorcism, one had to communicate with a demon in order to find out its name and then using the demon's name, cast him out. But in the case of one in which the demon caused the person to become dumb in the text which we are relating from, Jewish exorcism was of no avail. Communication with the demon became impossible. But Jewish theology taught that the "Messiah" when He came, would even be able to cast out that kind of demon.
Let us relate from Matthew 12: 22-25, "Then was brought unto Jesus one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said this fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. and Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand; And if Satan cast out Satan he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?"
Next week continues and we deal with the Sin which has no forgiveness.
